Sounds like a lot of thought and work went into creating this mission type. Hopefully it will stir some of those disenfranchised with the dogfight servers.

That said, perhaps it would be best to post the announcement in General section at RoF forum for maximum exposure. Also post it over at SIMHQ since most of those followers are single player and so it could be an interesting introduction to MP for them. The 'thin wedge' so to speak :grin:

Oh, did I already mention this is also an interesting concept for IL2 BoS? But then AI will probably only fly transports and (dive) bombers.... :smile:

Note: This is not a complaint, just an invitation to discussion.

I flew this for a while and liked it. It's nice to have something to do when alone on the server.
One thing that surprised me is, when I took an N17 to fly escort, the Strutters were out performing me. :shock: Which made it hard to keep up and cover them. I don't know if this is accurate or not but somehow I thought(I know I shouldn't do that) the N17 would be a little bit better. Then we found an alb and,god that N17 has become a wallowing pig for me.(Too bad, cause I love that plane.) Without Vander to save my bacon, I would have been toast for sure.(mmmm, bacon and toast.)

SO, do you think it would be worth lowering the fuel quantity to achieve a bit of parity with the Strutter?

Another thing I was wishing for is the "possibility"to be intercepted by AI fighters. Not sure if they are there already, but I didn't see any in my 3 or 4 bomber runs. And it gets boring just dodging flak. And I like it when I have to worry about what's around me on the way in and out. Right now it feels a bit like driving a delivery truck. "Afternoon Frau, got your bombs here. Shall I leave them on the roof then?" Yes that's fine." "Sign here. Good Day to you." and off I trundle to my next delivery.... :wink:

I had no performance issues, so maybe we could increase the AI air activity a bit more when human player numbers are low?(I have no idea what the technical limits are.)

Another thought I had was....Since numbers are so low and people seem to have such short attention spans(I can't believe I'm even suggesting this!) Should we maybe try turning on map icons during the week? It might stop the "where is everyone" in the chat, and help those impatient people stay around a little longer, so the server will fill up. Right now they join, complain over chat they can't find anyone then quit. Granted many of these same people have to ask why their plane won't start... :roll:

Anyway, I like the mission, just want more action if possible. Thanks.

Icons?...what?.....

tbh i dont think we need em. Had a good go this afternoon and a few bods were joinin/leaving etc and even a couple on ts (Russians??!!@1??) so maybe theres a show on somewhere?...or the Russion history society is having a look...anyhoo...loved the missions and performance was perfect.

One wishlist item...can we have the vis distance reduced with mist?...hate that 200 mile thing/unaliased crap in the distance.

About what Mugue mentioned, AI fighters on patrol.

I remember some time ago people talking about using Pat Wilson's campaign generator mission files to make MP server missions. Would this be possible to include his AI flight paths in your mission Vander? Pat's missions were terrific and made for quite a complex environment where you did have to keep an eye out all the time for AI scouts, even when taking off and landing...

I just don't know how it all works, whether this could be possible for AI patrols, or completely against the mission logic. Just food for thought.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will look into the AI fighters. They do patrols, but maybe their timing has to be tuned or they are not in 'attack' mode. One issue to solve is for them not to attack balloons all the time...
