Vaal's Stats Program..changing the way scores are calculated

Postby SYN_MrWolf » Thu Jun 21, 2012 6:02 am

Hi all,

I posted something in Vaal's thread about I thought it was strange that some people got a lot of high scores but also died a lot. My idea was that it should be other wise and people should be punished a little for dying. Some pilots on the top 5 have died over 52 times.

Vaal suggested the following..

Maybe I'm wrong to put it, because I do not know English. I can help set up a system of points on the syndicate on your plan, unless of course it will be within the current version of the statistics (ie, no need to change the core of the application).

So if you're interested, please describe your idea of a points system. More numbers, fewer words))

I know some of us have talked about this. So we could ask for some minor changes if there are ideas we all agree on. I don't think we should change to much, because you can break the system.

Any ideas?

Maybe a negative score for death? say -10 points or something, someone who loves numbers may need to try out a few permutations and see how it works out, we don't want to ruin the fun but encourage not being reckless. This could be a can of worms, I am not keen on uping the ratio for landing at airfield as you could game the stats by keep taking off and landing for example.

Good thinking Wolfie. I read this on the RoF Forums: "Now if the player landed the plane at the AF - it increases the score for the sortie by 10%"

So it is already in the stats that players have to land at their airfield (or is it any airfield?). This is great, but 10% is way too little. I'd say at least double the score if you land at an airfield. In IL2 you would get 10% of the points of a kill if you didn't survive the mission. That was a good system.

Also, looking at his code, I'm pretty sure we can do this ourselves. It's not that hard.
He gave another example. In this version your score will be less (by 10%) if you crash or get shotdown. And you get 0 points if you are killed. We have to be careful what "crashed" means. I think if you make a hard landing it is also counted as "crashed" and this shouldn't have impact on your score.
Here are the last few lines:

if sortie.landed:
score *= 1.1

# for example START
if sortie.crashed:
score *= 0.9

if sortie.shotdown:
score *= 0.5

if sortie.killed or sortie.dead or sortie.captured:
score = 0
# for example END

score *= sortie.ratio
score *= pilot.fairplay / 100

return round(score, 0)

Reading all this, my first proposal would be: add/change the following lines:

if sortie.landed:
score *= 1.5

if sortie.killed or sortie.dead or sortie.captured:
score *= 0.1

In short:
You get 50% more points if you land succesfully
You only get 10% of points if you do not survive/ get captured

It may also be a good idea to give just as many point for an AI two-seater shot down as a human flown two-seater.

I agree with Blackrat: Only change a few scores at a time...it may have big impact and it could turn into chaos quickly...

Sounds good. Vander!

I think if we can do it ourselves that would be even better. I think I agree with the suggestions already.

I really like the idea of rewarding people that complete the mission by landing at their airfield or at least at another airfield.

I always liked the old IL2 system.

100% of your points if you land at a one of your bases.

50% of your points if you land on your own side of lines but stay alive.

10% of your points if you land on other side of lines or if you die.

Simples!

I think this would be a great improvement if implemented well. And I'd agree with Jedders' suggestion for points allocation.

It would be interesting to find out if the line "if sortie.landed:" counts only landing at the same AF you took off from, at any friendly spawn point, or at any AF marked on the map. Either way it's good to see that it can award more points for landing at an AF than for simply putting down in the nearest hayfield.

I don't think you can give points for landing at the same airfield you took off from, just "landed". So we have use a slightly different system.
