242Sqn_Wolf has had a decent idea over on RoF forum:

"To me a reconnaissance we should take off with a blank map. Mark where we see targets of opportunities. Give points for each target that is correctly Identified after you land your aircraft safely on your side of the lines. I agree this war was more about reconns, bombing and photo missions should be made more important then they currently are in ROF."

This possible yet?....

No. None of those ideas are possible. We can't assign points in a mission and we can't turn on/off icons at will.

Points wise this would be possible with coops, because there you can actually define mission objectives and points will be awarded for any objective reached, but only after the mission has ended will you see them.
I'm still working on a sample coop mission that does this. We talked about this earlier; mayb string them together into a small online campaign. The only problem there is that you can't control when the mission starts. You need to do that because people have to show up at a given time since you can't drop in once a coop has been started.

Could we do the following thing?

Make several areas per site. The scale of capture the flag areas. And let the flag ( invisibly ) only go down when a recon flies the are at a certain height. So they can only be captured by recon. An are could contain a field with a limeted amount of a certain plane and 1 or two factories.

If for example one sides loses their area... a new area will spawn further from the line. MAybe with some inferior/superior planes.

The cool thing is the other side can make a tactical attack on that area just to get rid of certain planes. I know we do something like this already.
Also the area with recon planes could be further away but needs to be heavily guarded.

I think the whole ctf thing works great it only feels arcadey if you make it to simple. Good subtitles to make people aware of the situation is important.

I like it Wolfie. It is absolutely not historical as no plane ever "captured" any terrain, but it will make interesting gameplay. The two-seaters are the center of all attention as it should be. The fighters will be used for offensive sweeps, escort or defence. Winning conditions are very clear: capture all the flags.

We could try this on a special night/ day in the week?

Another thought.

Could it work if we not only did recon but also ground pound to win a sector. Imagine some ground tgts that are visible and one that isnt. Hit the visible ones as normal and then the successful recon fires an arty salve off map at another hidden tgt thus completing a "sector". Just wld be nice if we had to do more than 1 thing to grab a sector...fights clkd go on for days :)

nice plans, really like the CTF linked to the recons.

Another thought on the icons: We could clutter the map with loads of targets, but only activate a couple with a succesful recon (as SmokinHole did in one of his bombernight missions). This way only the activated targets need to be destroyed for the mission, the rest might not even give points.
