Should I get a G-Sync 1440p monitor?

Postby SYN_LennysCopilot » Mon Oct 12, 2015 1:17 pm

I currently have a 27 inch monitor with 1080 x 1920 resolution. I was considering getting a 27 inch monitor with 1440 x 2560p. Would this help me spot contacts in RoF?

Or do I suck no matter what hardware I have?

I have an Nvidia GTX 680 2 GB graphics card. Would this be able to handle such a monster of a monitor?

Yes, yes, no, and yes!

I ran my 27" Dell 2560 x 1440 (do you plan on using yours sideways?) off a 560Ti 2GB for a time, and it worked fine, the 680 will be great.

Sounds like a plan, then. I saw one on Amazon for four hundred bucks.

I run a Dell 30" 2560x1600 @ 60mhz with one GTX680(used to have two which I SLI'ed, till I burnt one out...) mines got 4gig of v memory though.(not sure what practical difference that makes)
But I think you'll be fine with that. In RoF, on near max settings, you might not be putting out a solid 60fps when the scene gets really busy or on the ground, but it will look great and mine's pretty smooth at around 45~50fps in those situations.

Re spotting(disclaimer-I have very bad eyes!) I don't really find it easier to spot things far off.(unless I'm lucky) When objects first get rendered they are friggin small!
What it definitely dose do, is make it much easier to ID any contact much farther out. (And the sooner you know it's Vorly diving on you, the sooner you can start running! )

A quote I butchered from 'The Matrix', "A piece of advice...When you see Vorly, you do what we do. Run. Run your ass off!"

Any updates?

Maybe it is just the placebo effect, but I've always thought it easier to spot very distant contacts with the HD monitor, and agree, smaller pixels packed in do make it easier to ID more distant ac.

This monitor will greatly assist you in spotting planes when playing ROF.

I'm stacking the cheddar for the monitor at the moment. Just one paycheck more, and I'll have the scratch I need.

Vorly, how much does that beast cost?

I saw Vorli's monitor on amazon for around $650-680. I like those specs, but, I'd have to jamb a screw driver through my current monitor to justify getting a new one.(doubt the wife will be fooled by the desecption :| )
