BEWARE, the link V posted mentions 4K "native resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels" but when I copy/paste that into online store websites like Newegg, the result yields only 2560 x 1440 or only 2K and its those that are se3lling for around $600.

The difference??? ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQ verses ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q too damn close ...

Good catch Bandy. I copied and pasted just as you said and got the same results...those bait and switching bastards!

2560x1440@144mz and G-sync would likely be pretty sweet too....Yea, I'd lose 160 pixels in the vertical, but the lack motion blur and tearing, might be worth it?(spotting wise)
Anyway, with the cheese one, I wouldn't need a new video card to drive it.

Yeah, I saw that monitor on Amazon too. I think I might get it. One more paycheck to go...

Necro'ing this thread to ask what monitors have suited your needs. Prices are somewhat going down on G-sync monitors. Of course I will continue to research, but there are many choices...

Vorli linked to the 27" Asus monitor above (which model seems to have been replaced) a 3840 x 2160 which is $1000+ for similar model. That's a lot of pixels.

I've been happy with image from my 27" Dell 2560 x 1440 but appear to be having vsync issues with certain titles, it's 6 ms response time is not good for games. So found the following Dell with these specs for $700.

DELL S2716DG 27" Gaming Monitor
16:9 TN Panel
NVIDIA G-Sync
WQHD 2560 x 1440 Resolution
144 Hz Refresh Rate
1ms Response Time
Display Port, HDMI, USB

FYI Bandy, I did end up getting this one: ASUS ROG PG278Q Black 27" WQHD 2560 x 1440, 144 Hz 1ms (GTG) NVIDIA G-Sync Gaming Monitor. G-sync works great! Worked great with my GTX680 GPU, and since Santa made a horrible mistake about which list I was on and brought me a 1080, the FPS are over the top insane!! The only things I really miss is the 1600 vertical pixels of my old monitor when flying, and its color and contrast. (different screen technology, which I knew going in...) 99% of the time its not a problem, and the performance is so good I can't think of going back.(though I keep meaning to try the old monitor with this new GPU, just to see what happens...just haven't gotten around to it yet.)

That Dell seems to have the same stats as mine. Personally, I think you'd love it.

4k seems like the real way forward to me. But the refresh rates are still too low.(once you've seen locked 144fps you won't want anything else) They(4k) also cost a lot. So I'm waiting a few generations for those to get better and cheaper, before I bite. And maybe VR will be the end all by then, who knows...

I nearly pushed the button on this exact model today, just sold my three 1080 24inch Gsync monitors so looking for a single 27 inch replacement and this one definitely fits the bill, just make sure it has the V3 panel  just deciding if I really need a Gsync monitor as most I play is in the rift now.

That is an exceptionally detailed review, thanks Blackie, but apparently not everyone likes it http://www.digitaltrends.com/monitor-reviews/dell-s2716dg-review/

I've found this Dell available for upper $400's (out of box returns or stage demos) to $580 new, I think that is the lowest price for HD 1440 and G-Sync. As almost always, you get what you pay for in other areas perhaps.

"just make sure it is a V3 panel" ??? Were there duds on earlier makes of same model, as this monitor seems to date back to 2015? That would defo eliminate picking up used or 'out of box' ...

I think there were some issues with the blacks on early panels, anyway mine will be here tomorrow

Looking forward to the 'impartial review' then.
