VR Vive and Rift

Postby SYN_Skydance » Wed Jun 29, 2016 5:45 pm

BoS has announced Vice Support

Quote DD "We continue to improve the sim. Today we release the update to version 2.002, which brings many additions and improvements along with a couple of surprises. First, we added preliminary support for HTC Vive, second - military ranks were introduced to campaign mode. They are separate for each campaign and side and influence the mission difficulty."

Unfortunately The Vive isn't working yet. We're waiting for a hotfix for the above patch.

Bandy, Skydance has one as far as I know.

They released a hot fix and it seems to be working now, probably ain't perfect but it's a preliminary implementation or they say so.

I got the Vive working now. You have to disable a Vive setting and edit a line in the IL2 BoS startup config

It works in game ok now, after the hotfix, but the menu are static so it makes selecting missions and aircraft near impossible as you can't look at the edges of the screen very easily.

As far as the Rift goes, Wolfie, it is only really been set up to work with the Vive but someone on the IL2 forum has said that they have had their Rift working in BoS by setting it up as a 2nd monitor in the nVidia control panel.

Quote from Toxin1

If you are using the Oculus rift CV1, its sdk is set for direct mode and will not allow you to diable direct mode and use the extended mode possible with the VIVE. I was able to somehow break the steamvr beta and get the CV1 into extended mode and see it as a 2nd monitor in the nvidia control panel. I set the oculus rift as primary monitor and by some cross eyed method got the game to launch. My head tracking was not working so no looking around, but I was able to get into the cockpit and fly around in a quick mission without any AI and it was pretty smooth using Ultra and 2XAA settings. The only major thing was that the gunsight reticle was not aligned so it appeared crossed into itself. I really hope Sneaksie can get the direct mode to work so the Oculus can be supported.

Smell O'vision?!!

You know, as we move along into the future, I would have thought they would have prioritized things better. I mean, I would have put a working jet pack or "Jetsons" flying car way ahead of smell O'vision. :| But I guess that's why I'm not a captain of industry.
