Arma 3 mod: RHS

Postby SYN_Vander » Fri May 15, 2015 6:43 pm

Has anyone tried the mod from RHS which adds present day vehicles and weapons? It seems to be top notch quality, but can't try until I get home. Maybe I'll create /convert a mission for it. The fantasy stuff in Arma 3 (specifically the vehicles) always puts me off a bit...

Do we need to install something ourselves?

So this is a 3rd party content expansion of current US and Russian weapons, not a separate mod install of the game AFAIK.
Has anyone found any missions made with it?

Introduction
United States armed forces brought to Arma 3 in full glory! Dozens of vehicles of every variety, units and weapons, all modeled and textured to the finest details and packed with features. The mod contains a a large array of content representing the US Army and the US Marine Corps.
When you download the pack this is what you can expect to find inside:

Units

Several scratch built, accurate uniforms in various camo patterns.
Bulletproof and loadout vests like the IOTV.
Headgear, such as the ACH and OPS CORE.
New custom backpacks.

Vehicles
Infantry Fighting Vehicles such as the M2A2 Bradley and the M113.
M1A1 and M1A2 family of MBTs.
Artillery in the shape of the M109A6.
Choppers and planes, transport and attack versions.
Soft bodied cars and trucks.

Weapons
M4 and M16 rifles with a large selection of attachments.
Sniper rifles and heavy machine guns.
Anti tank and anti aircraft weapons.

Features

The mod doesn't just come with content. This is after all a total modification! Expect to see the following things:
Carefully crafted and fully functional Fire Control Systems for vehicles.
Fire From Vehicles added where appropriate.
Conformity to the newest features present in Arma 3 (bipods, slingloading etc.)
Interaction with weapons and vehicles.
New, realistic effects.
Custom and random decals in the form of emblems and vehicle numbers.
And many many more...

What is the difference? You mean it's a mod you can turn on/ switch off? Yes, I think and hope so. I don't want to mess with the vanilla install....

Well, I've modded several other games with 3rd party stuff (ThirdWire titles, various CFS3 mods, etc...) and they all required a separate install, like IF'44 when in Arma2 days.

It looks like Arma3 is different in this respect since IF'44 simply exists as content within the main A3 install now, which is very nice.
I assume these 'packs' are the same.

Not sure why IF'44 required a separate install for Arma2, perhaps some copyright/licensing thing...

I just installed it with the vanilla version which also has Iron Front Mod, what I don't like is they installed it in addons folder instead of an @ folder, the server is also the vanilla install, I only installed IF separately so we could run two servers at the same time.

So to run it just add the -mod command as shown on the web page in a shortcut.

I would follow these instructions and you'll still have separate @ folders for the two mods:

METHOD 2: FRESH INSTALL
Create in the Arm 3 root directory @RHSAFRF and @RHSUSF folders.

Unpack the updaters to their respective folders.

Run ...\Arma 3\@RHSAFRF\Update_rhsafrf.Bat (note the path, that is where the .bat file is supposed to be).

Run ...\Arma 3\@RHSUSF\Update_rhsusf.Bat (note the path, that is where the .bat file is supposed to be).
Start the game with these folders in the command line (by adding the -mod=@RHSAFRF;@RHSUSF; to the launch options of Arma 3) or use the ARMA launcher and select mods by folder.

Also copy the .bikey file to the Keys folder in Arma 3 root. These small files are also on the downloadpages and it seems are needed for correct server compatibility check.

The plus side is that to get any new updates simply run the updater batch file(s) again.

I have quickly tested the mod in the editor. The soldiers and vehicles look good, but it seems the vehicles have old or no interiors. We'll have to be selective what to use in a mission :).

I'm guessing it was the bikey file placement that stopped me yesterday, sorry, missed that one. http://www.rif.org/

From the FA(S)Q on their site http://www.rhsmods.org/faq:
Will there be tank interiors?
Vehicle interiors take a massive amount of effort to make, with often little to no functional return. We avoid making them when not needed functionally, like in tanks. Vehicles where you cannot get away with not having an interior, such as ones that have cargo positions, will receive fully detailed ones.

Why are there so many Arma 2 ports? When will you replace them?
A lot of assets in Arma 2 were actually of very nice quality and it makes little sense to waste time and replace them. We agree that some will indeed need a retouch, and we will get to them in an orderly manner. Meanwhile enjoy the other two thirds of the mod consisting of original high quality free content. Ah, also, did you notice that the ported content now has working mirrors, working doors, PhysX and decals? No? Ok.
