$19 M in crowd funding has been reached last week. Likely more by now...

Some interesting fan videos, though he's a bit chatty, still good info condensed from blogs and forum posts.
The first explains the CR's vision of how the character will be personalized, and how death will be handled

This one talks about how players will be able to own/manage space stations now that they have been unlocked. Man, CIG knows how to keep the hype momentum, and the money rolling in.

And finally, somebody with a sense of humour for their malfunctioning hangar module...

Did they already post any video of decent gameplay? Their marketing ship is producing a lot of hype video's and their plans are grand, but I don't think you shouldn't expect to much. 21 Million sounds like a lot, but their plans are really big and difficult and time consuming to make.

Take Rockstar..they just created Gta V for 278.000.000 Dollar..and they still have server hosting problems.

I think they will release a sort of flyable game in 2014...but I wouldn't be surprised if it starts to look like something in 2017 - 2018. A five year production lenghth for a game happens a lot. I like your guys enthusiasm and I hope it lasts. For me it sounds a bit unrealistic.

Can I have your 300i ?

Seriously, I think you are right and this is indeed a big hype. But it's fun to surf on the wave of the hype for now....just don't get crazy with spending money!
I'm taking it step by step, if they can indeed release the dogfight module this December, we'll have something to keep us busy.
I like their approach of releasing it in bits in pieces...and yes it's also a good sales strategy for them as they keep the players enthusiastic, waiting for more and stay on spending. In fact it's not that different from RoF, but on a much large scale. Would we have bought the initial aircraft with just a hangar to view them? Don't think so.

What I do like and should also be in RoF/BoS is the system where you can convert ships back to money and then spend that money on another ship. But then again, in RoF the planes are sooo much cheaper!

Well I am also a bit hyped. Tho I kinda believe the financial success surprised the developers..and they jumped in and are foremost feeding the hype. I would love to do some exploration, tho just a flying model wouldn't do it for me.

I have more believe in something like the new Elite. Since the procedural way of programming is the way to go for these kinds of things. Like with Minecraft..that game is infinit big and you really discover the unbelievable beautiful wonders of procedural generated worlds :).

Yeah, it seems Elite Dangerous is still on schedule for March 2014 and on release they will have a huge (and expanding) universe in place, but you can't walk around.
I think by that time we won't have anything to explore in SC yet! Except our fish tank, wardrobe etc. ED is following a top down approach and SC is doing it the other way.

Now if we want to get really negative, there is some similarity with our beloved flight sims:
RoF started out with a working game, huge map, but limited content (4 flyable planes/cockpits). CLOD was always great in showing detailed cockpits and ground units with insane amount of polys, but they never got it to work properly...

Oh oh, never thought about it that way...

I don't see similarities with Clod at all... I look at SC the same way I see BoS in that both will be modifying a tried and tested game engine to suit their purposes. I'm excited about SC simply because it's a combination of the sandbox concept and space! :) However, I have noticed that the funding goals have started becoming 2 million apart instead of 1 million, so either they are at the final end of their main development ideas for release or they are milking it a bit more.

I still have my little Aurora MR from the KS and probably won't buy what I want before release because I'd like to earn it in-game (Hornet), but if I get my wife into SC (as long as she can customise her character she will) then I'll need a two seater or get cracking on teaching her to fly some more.

Anyway, rambling mode off. I don't get to talk SC much lol
