And don't panic if you have to wait till Friday to get the key!

They are a small dev'm group and apparently send the keys out manually at this early stage. Some customer panicked in Dec. and put a Paypal complaint in, and PP locked their account pending investigation, which tied them up for weeks. The transaction has a really odd business name as well, apparently some joke involving a corporation from EVE.

Jed, do you have it installed yet?
If you did, I could have played with you last night your time. I got to work from home Mon-Tues so I started and finished the day early. You'll really enjoy the cutter once you work up to it, just make sure you mount the heaviest cannon available in the 'Construction' tab at the bottom right of the landing screen. That said some factors to consider below. You can see how playing together as a team and coordinating load-outs can make a big difference.

Carronades are heavy hitters, but quite short range and take longer to load.
Long guns have better range and penetration, but take longer to load.
Shorts (regular cannon) seem to be a good compromise, you can anticipate and load double shot when getting close for extra damage (but takes longer to do so). You can always change the loaded ammo if you found you've made a mistake, but it takes a while.

ALSO, always hit F when you start a battle; this engages the 'Auto Skipper', otherwise you have to manually set/adjust the sails, and at least for me, it is too early on the learning curve for that.
Lest we forget...

Is this a stayer do you guys think?

I am very tempted but only if it is going to get some use, I have bought so many games which are just sat in the steam store unused, will this replace WOT??

In that it will be a game we can play together from the outset, then yes. WoT and Elite are pretty much games for the individual where NA seems to be more team based like RoF/BoS.

The Alpha has already caught my imagination more than BoS or Elite did. That said it may feel limited for a few weeks if grinding is your ultimate goal.

It is a satisfying game in acceptable working order that allows us to play together now. From that perfective I recommend it.
