Priceless Spud!
I felt the same way when I saw a Cheech and Chong movie waaay back....
Not to get all heavy here, but I tend to think too much sometimes. Advertising for cig's
was banished some time ago from TV in most countries prior to the the PC generation (or perhaps spurring it on?). There is some evidence to support the withdrawal of cig advertising (think the Marlboro man and what he represented) and a decline in youth smoking in several countries. Advertising isn't a multi-billion dollar/pound/sheckles industry for no reason, and having a popular comedian smoke on TV, well, that's just free advertising...
I suppose it really depends on where you draw the line on what PC is, and coming from a more socialist country my line is different than yours. When you pay into universal health care (and it isn't cheap, but WELL worth it IMHO...) one tends to frown upon those with nicotine addiction who suck up the majority of health care resources, i.e. your taxes. If this is PC to you, then I stand labelled, but justifiably so in this instance.
Politically correct to me is "
offense in occupational, gender, racial, cultural, sexual orientation, certain other religions, beliefs or ideologies, disability, and age-related contexts, and, as purported by the term, doing so to an excessive extent.".
